Some folks are pointing to the violence and crimes taking place at the Occupy movements as a reason they should be shut down.

Myself, I am not convinced the violence comes from within the movement. It may, as this story suggests, come from outside. http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/west/view/20111111man_is_shot_killed_near_occupy_oakland_protest_encampment
The Occupy Tiananmen Square movement.

I expect that. Someone is going to show up at the Occupy places and either try to make some money by stealing or attempt to prove something by engaging in violence.

This is not a reason to shut the Occupy movements down.

I think the Occupy movements are mostly composed of spoiled kids who cannot handle a day's worth of real work - HOLD THAT THOUGHT -

Yes, I mean that. They could not put in 8 hours worth of real work. No. They cannot. I will put money on that too. Take your pick of the protestors, send 'em to me and we'll go down to the farms my
Bring it. I know which of us can do it.
cousins run and spend the day picking cucumbers for 25¢ a bucket. I guarantee none of 'em will last until noon. I have done it, many times, and made good money doing it. - RESUME TRAIN OF THOUGHT -

These spoiled kids are upset because the dream they had suddenly slammed into reality and they can't deal with it.

I ask, and have yet to get a straight answer, where is the money coming from to support these people? Where are they getting food? Water? Clothes? Other amenities?

I know the answer. They are getting the stuff they have from the very corporations they rail against. Mom and Dad, who are part of the machine, are footing the bill.
And then complain when the food stops coming.

Again, you ain't gotta like that. But because you do not like it, do not then expect reality to reorder itself to your notions of how it should be.

Reality is not here to suit you. Reality is here to be reality. You either adapt or die.

You may infer that I do not support the Occupy movements.

In one respect you are correct. I do not support the whining, the temper tantrums and the childish reactions to an adult situation.

But I also support the Occupy movements.

"Huhn? Splain yourself Baker," you say.

Are you a patriot?
I am all about protesting, dissent and agitation. Whether it has a stated purpose or not is beside the point. I have long been called a Rebel Without A Cause, a moniker I will gleefully accept at times. I have reasons and causes for my rebellions. I merely choose to not explain all of them.

So, I am even more in support of the Occupy movement when I read the story about the government reaction in Oakland.

Sadly, I expected that kind of government reaction to the movement.

I expect hypocrisy from those in office. I expect them to lie. I expect them to double-deal and attempt to shaft their supporters.

It's what 25+ years of observing the American body politic has taught me.

Witness the first picture. When the Tiananmen Square Massacre happened, you'd not find a single politician in the United States who supported the Chinese government. Every one of 'em would vow support for the students and the protestors.

Rallying cries of "freedom", "no more repression" and other such revolutionary slogans could be heard.
If this offends you, good. Your being offended offends me. We're not even close to being even.
But bring the protests to their front yard, and suddenly "Well, we can't be having this kind of thing here, you know. This is simply not done. It's disruptive. These people need to go home, get back in their cubicles and become good little automatons," the elected leaders say.
Arrest that bird!

Official policy here is dissent, protest, disruption and outright rebellion must be supported in other countries, but in the United States it must be shut down and shut down hard. The United States government gleefully supports armed rebellion in other countries, but try the same thing here and you get the same treatment rebels in other countries get.

Why?

Another question - How many of these "elected leaders" were actually elected by a true majority of the people? Line up 100 elected officials and you'd get four or 5 who actually had a true majority. Is this truly representative of the people's will and wishes?

If our governments are not truly representative of the people, then our very Declaration of Independence states we have the right to change our government.

But the Supreme Court of the United States, Congress, the President and a ton of laws say such change is illegal.

Why? Which should people "of good conscience" follow?

CHARGE! I SAY! CHARGE!

Without deviation progress is not possible. Frank Zappa

I continue to think the Occupy movements are a bunch of whiny spoiled kids and I will continue to think this until empirical proof to the contrary is offered up. At the same time, I appreciate their willingness to tilt at windmills. We need people like that.
