An 8th grader in Texas is dead, shot by law enforcement officers and the family of the dead boy is, as expected, wailing and playing the victim.

Read the story. "'The suspect was ordered numerous times to drop this pistol and he disobeyed officers' commands,' interim Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez said at a news conference. 'He pointed the weapon at the officers, at which point the officers that were actively engaged by the suspect fired at least twice.'"

Yeah, it was a pellet pistol.

"'It has the exact appearance of Glock,' said Det, Jose Treviño."

Dunno about you, but if someone points a Glock-looking gun at me I will not be happy. If I already have a firearm in my hand when they point the gun at me, some lead is going to fly. I'm not going to take the time to find out if it is a pellet pistol.

You say you can look at the barrel and see what kind of gun it is. Really? If someone is pointing a gun at you, you're going to take the time to check the barrel diameter? If you do, can you tell the difference between a .22 and .17, both of which are pellet and powder-driven-projectile sizes? How can you tell if it's a firearm or a air pistol?

Law enforcement in this case can't win. If the kid had been packing a Glock and shot people, the police would be criticized for not stopping him.

I'm siding with the police on this one. The kid should have dropped the gun. The police, faced with a person with a gun at a school, had to react. They did. I like that.

I do not like the fact the kid was killed

What would you do under the same circumstances?

Lemme read between some lines and extrapolate here. "The event began with Gonzalez (the dead kid) assaulting another student randomly, Rodriguez said, after which school officials discovered the pistol and called for police assistance."
Lemme read your mind before you shoot, just to be sure.

This took place in Brownsville Texas. What you wanna bet the kid was involved in other illegal activities? Wanna wager as to whether or not the kid was either in a gang or a gang wanna be? I'm just asking questions. I am not saying anything detrimental about the kid, but I am commenting on the present state of affairs.

OK, forget that. LE told the boy several times to put the gun down. He didn't. Police reacted.

Can you read someone's mind? Do you think the police can?

If you tell someone to drop a gun and they don't, are you going to wait until they start shooting at you to shoot back? In other words, who needs to die first?

If you want police to determine what may be running through the mind of a person with gun before they act, then we will have no one in law enforcement.

The Brownsville PD is not trigger happy either.

I also dunno about where you live, but where I live if you threaten me and I take it as a serious attempt to harm or kill me, I can kill you.

I don't just have the right to do that. I'm gonna do my absolute best to make sure it happens that way.

Lemme make that a bit clearer. I'm gonna shoot until my gun is empty and, if necessary, I will reload.

It's called Castle Doctrine and in the Peach State, it's the law. It's also the law in pretty much all of the South. Other states in the US and some other countries don't believe in the right to self defense. You have to run away and if you can't run any more, your right to fight back is sharply limited.

What do you think? If someone is coming after you with the intention to kill, what do you think you should be able to do?

A LOT of people object to this. They believe that only the government should have guns.

They need to talk to this lady.

If you are one of the people who believe in taking guns away from private citizens, what would you say to this woman? Without the unknown man with the 9mm, she'd be dead and her attacker alive. Thanks to this man, the attacker is dead and the woman is alive.

Well. Very few if any people who read this believe private citizens shouldn't have guns. The vast majority of you are on my side.
