If the universe is infinite, as the current crop of heavy duty thinks believe, then this raises an major existential question.
Oh don't I wish... |
No matter how improbable, it must exist if the universe is infinite.
This raises a major set of contradictions.
On one hand with infinity to be in, intelligent life somewhere else in the universe must exist. This is a probability.
On the other hand (and you may need Kali to have enough hands if I run this one far enough) there is no intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. This is a probability.
If the universe is infinite and everything, no matter how improbable, must exist then both ideas about intelligent life are equally correct and true.
Reminds me of physics, math and politics.
Such is the stuff of philosophers better than me and late nights with a keg of cold beer, good friends and a roaring bonfire.
