The background: As president of the Music Boosters at the high school, I have talked the other parents into setting up a Shoot the Fire Ant booth at the Fire Ant Festival in March. We have paintball equipment. Need some masks and paintballs and we're good ta go.

Plunk down your money, shoot a student in the band of chorus program. I suspect we'll make some good money.

This year the Music Program is looking to go to Orlando for a Band/Chorus trip. Kids are gonna need money for this.

Here's where I look for your feedback:

My idea is the students who participate, i.e. the ones who get shot, will get part of the money for their Orlando trip expenses.

Students who do not participate do not get to share in the money.

Is this fair?

Will provide an update with feedback later this week.

  1. I think the fact that possibly that there will be some real fear involved may prevent some. Are there jobs related to this activity that some may do that would allow for this such as set up, clean up, ticket sales, equipment management, etc?
I imagine there will will be some young daredevils that will dive into the whole target idea with gusto, but others who wish to participate in some way but for their own fears or that of their parents cannot.
Granted, those who do not show up for the event at all should come up with other fund raising activities and not be included.

  2. I think that any kid who actively participates in the activity whether they are being shot at or cleaning up the mess or handing out the guns or reloading them should get a chunk of the cash. Now if any band type kid does not participate in the booth in any way, they should not get anything. Now I gotta agree that those who are brave enough to take getting shot at should get a chunk, maybe even a small amount more because those darned pellets hurt!
