For decades, I have read gun writers repeatedly say knockdown power is a myth.
I did not believe it the first time I read it. I do not believe it now.

The gents at Ballistic High Speed have literally shot down the myth that knockdown power does not exist.

Someone is going to go splodey head here and say yeah, but that is a cannon.
And? It uses gunpowder. It fires a projectile, using the chemical combustion gas forces generated by the burning powder.
The cannon also sent bowling pins literally flying. Looks and sounds like knockdown power to me.

Some years back I was headed into my deer stand. I saw a fox squirrel high up in a tree. As I was in a pecan orchard and squirrels wreak hell on pecans, I took aim with my .270 Win. The impact sent the squirrel flying from one side of the tree to the other.
If that is not knockdown power, please explain how I do not understand what knockdown power is.
In case you don't wonder, I've hunted grey squirrels with soft lead 300-grain in a .45-70. No squirrels were launched into space. They simply fell out of the tree, dead.
Can you explain the difference?
YouTube (if the YT overlords allow the vids to remain up) has videos of prairie dogs being launched more'n 20 feet in the air by .223, .22-250s and other high-velocity rifle rounds.
Again, if this is not knockdown power, please tell me where I am wrong.
